Delhi Govt Plans to launch a WhatsApp Number to report Drinking in public

The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi – Manish Sisodia on Wednesday said that the government of Delhi is in plans to launch a WhatsApp number to report about the drinking in public. Sisodiya announced this planning after he reviewed the ongoing campaign of Delhi government against drinking in public.

Deputy CM – Manish Sisodia shared few tweets about the success of the campaign they have held.  Sisodiya said that at least 1,500 people have been caught so far drinking liquor in public and were fined or arrested.  He said that the government had been placing limits in areas that are infamous for public drinking by conducting multiple raids with the help of Excise Department.

In a tweet, he also said that there has been a significant reduction in the number of cases under public liquor consumption as compare to earlier. Now, people are  afraid of getting caught, paying Rs 5,000 fine, going to jail and losing their prestige.

Delhi CM Manish Sisodia said that Delhi government wants to include common people in the campaign so that they could give their inputs about public consumption of liquor. The Delhi government will soon launch a WhatsApp number regarding this schemes. By using this WhatsApp number, one could complain against those consuming alcohol in public.

In October last year, Deputy CM Sisodia said that people who are drinking liquor in public would be arrested starting from 7th November 2016 onwards. The government has made 20 teams with the Excise department. The Delhi government along with these 20 teams has been running a public awareness campaign to address this public drinking issue. Sisodia also announced that they will be imposed with Rs 5000 and Rs 10000 if anyone was caught while drinking in public.
