Latest News: UP Police started Anti-Romeo squads in Meerut

The Uttar Pradesh Police have started an ‘Anti-Romeo’ drive to control the incidents of sexual harassment across the district after Yogi Adityanath taking charge as the chief minister of UP.

As per the Inspector General of Police (Meerut zone) – Ajay Anand that on the directives of CM Yogi Adityanath, anti-Romeo squads have been formed.

Ajay Anand said that each police station in the districts under the zone has formed a squad including one SI, three constables and a woman constable.

Further, Anand said that the anti-Romeo squads will carry out the Operation Romeo outside colleges and their functioning will be monitored by the city SP.

BJP President Amit Shah, while campaigning in the state, had said that if the BJP voted to power, the party would form anti-Romeo squads to check instances of sexual harassment of women in the state.

Superintendent of Police(city) – Alok Priyadarshi said that this drive was meant to create an atmosphere of security for the women in the district.

Hotels with a bad reputation across the city have also found themselves on the receiving end of the drive with officials conducting raids at various such establishments.

In a raid at a hotel in Sadar Bazar area here, policemen found a hookah bar which they promptly shut down.

The police said that bottles of hookah flavours found there would be sent for forensic tests and also said that youths were being intoxicated through the hookah flavours.
