A naxal killed in encounter with security forces in Sukma, Chhattisgarh

On Tuesday, a naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in the dense forests of Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

Sukma Superintendent of Police – Indira Kalyan Elesela said that the attack took place in the wee hours when a team of the District Reserve Group which was led by Dornapal SHO Ajay Sonkar, was out an anti-naxal operation in Dornapal police station area.

He said that a group of naxals opened fire on the team near Koyabekur village following which an encounter broke out between security forces and naxals.

Head of Janatana Sarkar group of Maoists in Kerlapal area – Mada Benjami was killed in the encounter, SP Indira Kalyan Elesela said. He further added that the deceased was looking after naxal activities in about 10 villages of the region.

He said that some automatic weapons and ammunition was recovered from the spot. Police said that in this year, a total of 89 Maoists were killed in separate encounters in Bastar.

In March this year, 7 jawans of CRPF were killed after naxals attacked their convoy in insurgency hit Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh.

In another attack in the month of July 2016, 10 CRPF commandos were killed in an Naxals IED blasts in the forest of Aurangabad district, Bihar. This was the one of the biggest casualties of elite Cobra Unit of CRPF.
