The T20 format has produced some of cricket’s most illustrious figures.
Kevin Pietersen, commentators Ian Bishop and Aakash Chopra, and South African talents Rassie van der Dussen and Lungi Ngidi, all came together to unveil their T20 GOATs across five categories ahead of IPL 15, which the Mumbai Indians are favourites to win in the latest IPL betting trend by Betway.
They discuss:
- Why Chris Gayle is the most destructive batter ever.
- The most consistent T20 run-scorer of all time.
- A ‘mind-boggling’ South African fielder.
- The genius of Lasith Malinga.
- Which mystery spinner was the most difficult to face.
The Greatest T20 Player Ever
Virat Kohli has an uncanny ability to score runs. In T20 cricket, he entirely overturned the perception that 30 is the new 50. For a long period, he was averaging 50. It’s a kind of straightforward, traditional strategy that definitely applies in test cricket. But he understands the power game as well.
Six Hitter
Nobody comes close to Christopher Henry Gayle. The pick-up is always in the middle, and it’s just a flat bat smash. It’s really dismissive. When you look up from the peak of your run-up, he appears to be standing right next to you. It’s out of the stadium in one swing. He influenced and aided in the evolution of T20 batting. And it’s for this reason that I believe he is the GOAT of T20 batting.
Best Spinner
Sunil Narine, because of his versatility. Akash Chopra commented, “I didn’t know which way it was going to go. It’s as though you’ve been to another nation. Perhaps I travel to China and discover that everyone speaks a different language, leaving me hopelessly befuddled. And you have no response to the question that has been posed to you. Someone has just bowled a maiden super over. It takes some effort, after all. That is something I recall clearly. It was very unjust.”
Fielder
All cricket stars were convinced there are not many players that are better than AB de Villiers in any aspect of the game. Some of the catches he made and the run outs he inflicted were simply incredible. “I believe that because of his presence on the field and the value he gave to the squad, we all elevated our game,” said his team mate Rassie van der Dussen.
