The police officials and the investigators stated that the collision was reported at around 1 PM on Thursday, March 24, at Kinney Road (M-19), near Burt Road, in Riley Township and the investigators believe that a 2021 GMC Terrain was heading north on Kinney Road when it collided with a 2012 Nissan Altima travelling south on Kinney Road and the police stated that the crash occurred because one of the vehicles crossed the centre line.

According to the statement of the officials, the driver of the Terrain, who was a 40-year-old Mussey Township woman, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to McLaren Port Huron Hospital in critical condition and an 18-month-old child in the vehicle also was taken to the hospital in critical condition. On the other hand, the 27-year-old driver of the Altima was a Warren woman along with a 15-year-old boy from Emmett who were pronounced and declared dead at the scene.
