Apple began Selling ‘Assembled in India’ iPhone XR, Price Release Date

Finally, after a huge anticipation, Apple Inc has started selling its very popular iPhone XR phones assembled in India. It seems like that they are going to expand its share in the world’s second-largest smartphone market where it has been struggling these days against the cheaper products from the rival companies.

The phones are now being assembled at Taipei-based contract manufacturer Foxconn’s India factory, in order to help the Cupertino, which is a California-based company in order to avoid high taxes or charges on the import of fully-built devices and also to meet local sourcing standards for opening its own retail stores in India.

On Monday, in many of the electronic product retailers in the country, which also comprises of Croma, iPhone XR boxes with an “Assembled in India” tag were seen there with a price tag of 49,900 Indian rupees (£542) for the 64 GB version.

The company on the other hand has slashed iPhone XR prices in India in order to counter a prolonged sales slowdown among great competition from premium smartphones from Samsung as well as OnePlus.

Previously this year, the Reuters had reported that the company is going to assemble its top-end iPhones in India. However, Apple did not respond to a request immediately for any comment.

On the other hand, the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tried to position South Asia’s third-biggest economy as a centre for manufacturing of smartphones.

As an export hub, companies like Apple are also looking to use India in order to soften the impact of an on-going trade war that is going on between the United States and China.

With the local manufacturing, Apple is looking at expanding its market more further in order to share in the premium segment. At the same time, the phones are also being assembled at the Chennai factory of Foxconn, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer.

The local manufacturing is also going to help Apple to avoid high levies on the import of full-built devices. The iPhone maker on the other hand is also going to be able to meet local sourcing norms, helping it open own retail stores in the nation.
