Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior BJP leader Babulal Gaur passed away on Wednesday morning at a private hospital in Bhopal after a prolonged illness. He was 89 years old.
According to Narmada Hospital Director Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Babulal Gaur was suffering from various old-age related ailments and was hospitalised for quite some time. Gaur was admitted to the Narmada hospital in Bhopal on August 7 after his blood pressure dropped with symptoms of pneumonia and since then he was on life support. On Tuesday, he suffered multi-organ complications. At 6:52 AM on Wednesday morning, he died due to cardiac arrest.
Chief Minister Kamal Nath had visited Gaur at the hospital at that time. Gaur is survived by his daughter-in-law and MLA, Krishna and two grandchildren.
The veteran BJP leader served as Madhya Pradesh’s chief minister during the duration of 2004 to 2005 and represented his traditional Govindpura Vidhan Sabha seat 10 times. Gaur holds the enviable record of representing Bhopal in the state assembly for 10 terms, winning the seat every time with an increased margin.

Babulal Gaur was born on June 2, 1930, at Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh. He emerged as a powerful and popular leader in Madhya Pradesh initially as a trade union leader and later as an MLA.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to give condolences on the demise of former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Babulal Gaur, saying he continuously worked to strengthen the party. He wrote “Shri Babulal Gaur Ji served people for decades. From Jana Sangh days, he worked constantly to strengthen our Party. As Minister and CM of Madhya Pradesh, he undertook many efforts to transform the state. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”
Gaur’s body has been taken to his official residence at 74 Bungalows area of the state capital in the morning. BJP state media in-charge Lokendra Parashar said that the BJP has decided to take the remaining to the party’s state head office at 12.30pm where the party workers will pay him tributes. Last rites will be performed at Subhash Nagar crematorium at 2 pm. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath has condoled the demise of the veteran leader. The chief minister reached the official residence of Gaur in the morning to pay tributes.
