On Sunday, Around 15 temples and hundreds of houses belonging to Hindus were destroyed in Chittagong, Bangladesh during a protest against an alleged Facebook post demeaning the most sacred mosque in the world.
As per the report of The Daily Star, on Sunday thousands of people along with activists of Hefajat-e-Islam and Ahle Sunnat, brought out separate rallies in Nasirnagar under Brahmanbaria district demanding capital punishment for the man who posted a demeaning the Masjid al Haram in Mecca.
Mizanpur Rahman who is the Brahmanbaria superintendent of police, told the newspaper that at least 150 to 200 people launched the attacks and destroyed at least 7 to 8 idols inside five temples in the area.
He also added that 2 people were injured in the attacks while six people were arrested.
However, General Secretary of Nasirnagar Puja Committee – Khailpada Poddar alleged that at least 15 Hindu temples were destroyed and looted. He also told that 200 Hindu houses were ransacked and looted.
SP Rahman said that the violence was contained by the police who took control over law and order in the area around 2:00 pm. A raid was also conducted to nab the culprits.
As per the reports that a large number of security personnel from the police, paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh, and Rapid Action Battalion have been deployed in the area.
