Unless you’ve been asleep for the last decade or so, you’ve probably heard the term wellness, but what does it mean? It may seem obvious to state that it means to be well although this is true, but it goes further than that. In a way, it asks what it means to be well. It is not just about your physical health. It is about making sure that every element of your life is healthy. This includes your emotions, your mental state, your relationships and even how you feel about your career. You could think of it as being about how to maximize opportunities in every area of your life. Below are a few of the categories besides your physical health that are important.
Your Job
Some people refer to this as occupational or vocational wellness. You might not think about your job as related to your health, but job stress can have a detrimental effect on many areas of your life just as having a workplace where you are happy can make the other parts of your life seem better as well. If you are unhappy in your work, you might want to consider whether it’s time to change the field that you work in. You may want to extend your education further and train for a different occupation by going to graduate school. There may be a number of different ways to pay for this, including student loans from private lenders.
Your Relationships
You don’t have to have a huge circle of friends, be in an intimate relationship, or have family members that you are close to in order to experience wellness in a social sense. However, most people do feel better when they are connected to a community and to at least a handful of people in their lives. Friends you meet online can provide some support, but there is no substitute for real people who are local to you. A local spiritual community, classes, hobby groups or volunteer work can all be ways of connecting with others.
Your Emotions
No one feels cheerful all the time, so you are under no obligation to present a constantly happy face to the world in order to adequately address this category of wellness. However, you should be able to manage your emotions effectively as well as feel empathy for others. Positivity is good. Understanding your emotions and allowing yourself to feel the full range of them is also important.
Your Intellect
Do you feel stuck? Are you bored at work? Do you come home, look at another evening of going online or watching TV and think there must be something else worthwhile? What you may be missing is intellectual stimulation. This doesn’t mean that you have to sit around reading difficult books although you certainly can if that appeals to you.
It is about pursuing knowledge and skills in many forms, and it may also involve having the opportunity to share that with others. A lifetime of learning and growth can help enhance your overall wellness. Find a hobby that also stimulates your mind. Part of the reason online sports betting is so appealing to many is because it is fast paced, requires research and knowledge, and has potential for reward and excitement. If that is not your thing there are many other hobbies to discover that replicate those same emotions.
