Cirstea Won Her First WTA Title in 13 Years At the Istanbul Open Check Highlights Points & Recap

The WTA Tour season 2021’s title goes to the Romanian tennis player, Sorana Cirstea in the singles champion on 25th April 2021, that is, Sunday. Cirstea has been working extremely hard and we have to say that her hard work and fate both paid off and after a long wait of 13 years, she won her first-ever WTA tour. In the BNP Paribas Tennis Championship that was played in Istanbul, Turkey the 31 years-old tennis player of Romania clashed against the Belgium Tennis player, Elise Mertens and won the match by 6-1, 7-6 (3) points. The ranking of Cirstea in the world is 67. Her performance against the Merten was incredible, however, Merten gave a very tough fight to Cristea.

The last time she won the WTA title way back in the year 2008 under the singles championship. In that WTA season, Cirstea won against Tashkent. At the time the former was only 18-yer old. The whole Instabul including her family, friends and herself, and all fans are incredibly proud of her. Cirstea is extremely overwhelmed and happy. She expressed her gratitude and said that she is immensely happy and joyful for the title of WTA tour 2021. Seh further added, that honest she did not expect to win the title and that too twice.

As previously mentioned, Cristea’s performance in the tour and especially the last match was extraordinary. She did even lose a single set all the week and in fact refined and boosted to 3-0 against the Belgium tennis player. She defeated Mertens five times in a row and gained 70% of her second service points to secure the title of WTA tour. In the year 2021, Cristea won her first WTA quarterfinal at the Grampians Trophy that was held in Melbourne and later shocked everyone with her epic winning in the Australian Opens in which she defeated the Petrea Kvitova, who is ranking is No.8 in the world in Tennis.

Coming back to the WTA 2021 tour, Mertens served and levelled the match successfully at 5-3, but Cristea hindered and attacked back leading to 6-5. In the match, Cristea was a little breathless and exhausted and seeing that Merten attacked back and knock down a tie break. Eight out of nine points went against Martens, however, Cristea triumphantly took the points to 7-3 and won the title of WTA Tour after 1 hour and 42 minutes.
