CPI Leader Gurudas Dasgupta Passes Away at age of 83, Due to Lung Cancer

On Thursday early morning, Former Lok Sabha MP and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta died at the age of 83 in Kolkata. . He is survived by his wife and daughter.

He was suffering from heart as well as kidney related ailments and was in poor health.

The news was also confirmed by West Bengal CPI secretary Swapan Banerjee, who also said, “He (Dasgupta) passed away at his home in Kolkata at 6 am. Due to his poor health he had relinquished party posts but was a member of CPI national executive council,”

Talking about Dasgupta political work life, he was a well-known Left leader who had a long time in the politics.

After when he was elected to the Rajya Sabha in the year 1985, he then first became of member of Parliament. After that he was also elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in the year 2004 from Panskura constituency in West Bengal.

Later, in the year 2009, he was then again elected to the lower House of Parliament, this time he was elected from Ghatal seat in West Bengal.

On the other hand, Dasgupta had a long association with the trade union movement as well as he was also elected as general secretary of All India Trade Union Congress in the year 2001. After few years, he was elected to the the National Secretariat, Communist Party of India, in 2004.
