Cyclone Maha, which is at present over the Arabian Sea, is now moving towards to hit Gujarat later this week even as an additional cyclone (Bulbul) forms over the Bay of Bengal, threatening the east coast of India.

Cyclone Maha is also expected to cause extensive rainfall in Gujarat along with some certain areas of coastal as well as northern Maharashtra, which also includes urban centres such as Mumbai and Thane.
On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department in its latest bulletin stated that Cyclone Maha is expected to make its landfall in Gujarat in the early hours of Thursday. Maha is also going to hit Gujarat at a lower intensity than it was predicted earlier — it will cross in the middle of Diu and Porbandar as a cyclonic storm with winds of up to 90 kmph.
While in Gujarat it is hugely expected to get heavy rainfall because of the effects of Cyclone Maha and those areas comprises of Junagarh, Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Ahmedabad, Botad, Porbandar, Rajkot and Vadodara and their surrounding areas.

At the same time, the nearby union territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are also going to witness rainfall.
As per to the India Meteorological Department, the rainfall is expected to start on Wednesday and will carry on till Thursday when Cyclone Maha will hit Indian mainland.
In the meantime, the IMD has warned of strong winds as well as rough sea conditions along the coast of Gujarat as well as Maharashtra. In addition to that, the weather office has also warned of the damage in order to power as well as communication lines, uprooting of trees along with the damage to coastal crops. Fishermen on the other hand, have also been advised not to undertake any activities out to sea till Thursday.

In the meantime, the government has also taken stock of the situation. On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi chaired a meeting in order to review the preparedness for Cyclone Maha.
On the top of that, the Indian Navy also stated that it has deployed four warships loaded with relief material as well as it has kept aircraft and helicopters on backup in order to deal with the outcome of Cyclone Maha. Along with Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard too has started its preparations and is meanwhile actively involved in preventing fishermen from going out to sea.

In the meantime, the IMD has not yet said whether Cyclone Bulbul is going to make landfall in India or not and if it happens then at what intensity. At present, the IMD is predicting that Cyclone Bulbul is going to head towards the coasts of Odisha, West Bengal as well as Bangladesh.
