In the time of such crises, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has made a big announcement today that may bring some relief to the poor who are going through financial difficulties these days. On Tuesday, CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that all the ration card holders in Delhi are going to be given ration for the upcoming 2 months for free of cost.
As we are well aware of the ongoing situation of Covid-19, the second wave of coronavirus has hit the country very adversely. It has not only affected the people physically or mentally but also financially because many job sectors, business activities, etc. have been shut down, leaving many workers jobless. Even though every sector is affected by coronavirus pandemic crises but the adverse effect is mostly on the underprivileged or poverty-stricken working people in the country. They now don’t have any job or else they are working for very little wages which is not enough to fulfil their basic needs.
As the situation of the national capital is also worsening due to covid-19, so the Delhi government is taking some helpful and beneficial steps that will help these people in some extent. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in an official announcement on Tuesday stated that they have made a decision to provide free ration to “all ration card holders in Delhi” for the next coming two months. He also estimated the number of people i.e. around 72 lakh, who are going to get benefit from this step by the government in the national capital.
He further clarified that he is not declaring any lockdown, so people should not confuse this step as the imposition of lockdown in the national capital for two months. Instead, it is just a step by the government to help the underprivileged and needy people in Delhi who are going thorough financial crises these days. He also said that imposing a lockdown is also necessary to limit the spread of this deadly virus but at the same time it is going hit many underprivileged sections of the society who get their earnings through daily wages. CM Arvind Kejriwal then spoke about the importance of social security and social distancing measures that everyone must follow to prevent spreading the virus to others.
Other than this, the Delhi CM also announced providing financial help of Rs 5,000 each for every autorickshaw and taxi drivers in the national capital. Last week also, the Delhi government has paid out ex-gratia payments to every construction workers who have been registered under the Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and they were given Rs 5,000 each.
