Her father Yoginder Singh said, “Sonali left home around 8.30pm saying she had to meet Rahul at the Devli bus stop to receive the money. But she had not returned home even at 10 pm. Later, we got a phone call from a private hospital informing us that she had been shot.”
He also added that Rahul had requested her for a loan of Rs 2.7 lakh in March to start a business. He said, “Sonali did not think twice about the request and dipped into her savings to manage the amount.”
On reaching the hospital, it was found that her face had bullet injuries and bruises were also found on her limbs. She was in the ICU earlier and later referred to AIIMS.
People had found her lying unconscious on the road and informed the police. She underwent surgery and is under medical observation.
After regaining consciousness, Sonali said in her statement that Rahul wanted her to come along with him to Rajokri, where he promised to borrow money from someone and repay her. On their way, they started arguing and Rahul threatened to shoot her. When she unsuccessfully tried to push him away, he shot at her and pushed her out of the Toyota Fortuner car.
As per Benita Mary, additional DCP (Southwest) a case of attempt to murder has been registered against Rahul. The cops are also verifying if Neha too was present in the car at the time of the incident.
Members of Sonali’s family disclosed that they knew Rahul and his kin since their shift to Devli village 20 years ago. Sonali and Neha were close friends, having studied in the same school. Her father claimed that when his daughter asked for the return of the borrowed sum, Rahul and his family kept making excuses. According to him, the shooting would not have taken place had Sonali given up asking Rahul for the money to be returned.
