Former cricket captain M S Dhoni including 23 other players of the Jharkhand state cricket team were safely rescued after a hotel caught fire in Dwarka, West Delhi on Friday morning. They were staying in this hotel.
All cricketers were in the national capital – Delhi to play for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. A total of 540 people were inside the Welcome Hotel in Dwarka when the fire was broke out around 6 am on Friday. Many were trapped inside, but the fire fighters and police managed to rescue them.
DCP(South-West) Surender Kumar said that the fire started at a Reliance store located on the first floor of the hotel. Indian skeeper M S Dhoni was on the ninth floor while other cricketers were staying across three floors from seventh to ninth.
The fire was brought under control by 8.30 am. The fire officers said that the fire fighting operations are still on.
Atul Garg – the Chief fire officer at Delhi Fire Services said that we are still ascertaining whether everyone has been brought out safely. More than 30 fire tenders have been rushed there.
Atul Garg said that the fire quickly spread to the other floors, engulfing the building in thick smoke. Guests were stuck on the seventh and eighth floors as well. We rescued them.
