Final stage of work, Shirdi Airport will be open in the month of October 2016

The Shirdi Airport is likely to be inaugurated in the month of October 2016. The CM of Maharashtra Devebdra Fadnavis will invite the PM Modi for the inauguration ceremony of the Airport, said Vishvas Patil, MD of Maharashtra Airport Development Authority.

Vishvas Patil visited the Shirdi Airport on Wednesday to supervise the progress of work at the airport which is in its final stage and also held a meeting with the officials.

Patil also said that the process of getting permission of various department is in its final stage. A discussion during the meeting where the CM said that he will send the invitation letter to PM Modi.

MD Vishvas Patil said the Air Traffic Control(ATC) tower has been completed till 250 meters and it will be finished at the height of 1000 meters in the month of October 2016.

He said that X-ray machine has been installed and special fire tender machinery will be imported from Australia. Modern Machinery will be set up for security.

The Shirdi Airport is being set up on 900 acres land with having a runway of 2500 meters length, which is likely to be extended to 3200 meters in length. So far, Rs. 250 crores have been spent and Rs. 100 crore works are still pending. The parking bay, taxi bay and lighting work have been completed. The Shirdi Airport will start functioning soon, said Vishvas Patil.

Patil also added that many devotees from various countries inquire about air services to visit the the Shirdi temple. The devotees will now be able reach Shirdi via flights from Mumbai and Delhi airports.
