As soon as the fire broke out at around 9 am, the fire department was called and they immediately sent a total number of 26 fire engines to the emergency spot.

The Fire officials were informed and alerted about the incident at around 9:25 am. But the firefighters made their way to the spot in more than two hours to extinguish the fire. The delay was held due to the narrow and congested lane which was the way to reach the building.

After extinguishing the fire, the search and rescue operations are being carried out by the fire department officials in order to check if there are any more people who are trapped in the building.

The building where the fire broke out was the hardware factory which comprises of a ground floor and three upper floors. The factory mainly manufactures and produces plastic as well as rubber items which essentially comprises of household tools and equipment. Because of the plastic and rubber items present in the factory, the fire became difficult to extinguish and the building catches more fire soon as it started.

In spite of being in an industrial area, there are a number of residential buildings which are situated near the factory. Because of which the area has become overcrowded and unplanned, and the lanes are constricted, emphasizing the lack of proper planning.

Last year also, the similar kind of incident took place on January 2018 where the total number of 17 people which comprises of ten women and seven men died in a huge fire at a firecracker storage unit in outer Delhi’s Bawana industrial area.

Ved Prakash Surya, who is the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) said in a statement that the bodies of three persons have been recovered from inside the factory and rescue operation is still in progress and on-going.

As per to the fire department official who said that they got the call regarding a fire at around 9:25 am after which at least 30 fire tenders have been sent into service. The fire hasn’t been entirely put out, the official said.

Right now, in the meantime, the cause of the fire is not known yet, but the investigation is being carried out regarding this incident.
