With an annual income of over Rs. 12 crore and assets worth over Rs 147 crore, cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir is among the richest of all the 349 candidates in the battle for the Lok Sabha election in Delhi.
Mr. Gambhir, who was nominated by the BJP in East Delhi constituency against AAP’s Atishi Marlena and former MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress, has shown an income of over Rs. 12.4 crore in the income tax returns filed for 2017-18.
Lovely, who also filed his nomination on Tuesday, has total assets to the tune of Rs. 6.8 crore. Lovely’s assets grew by Rs 2.32 crore since he contested the 2015 Delhi assembly elections.
In Delhi North West, BJP’s singer-turned-politician Hans Raj Hans has an annual income of Rs.9.28 lakh, as per the IT returns filed in 2017-18. While his Congress counterpart, Rajesh Lilothia had an annual income of Rs. 26.34 lakh, as per the IT returns filed in 2017-18.
Congress candidate from West Delhi Mahabal Mishra has declared his total assets of Rs. 45 crore and was the second richest among the BJP and Congress candidates who filed their nominations on Tuesday. A scrutiny of the affidavit shows that his assets grew by Rs 12 crore since the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Congress candidate from South Delhi Vijender Singh has declared an annual income of Rs. 45 lakh in 2017-18 with total assets worth Rs12.14 crore.
BJP’s sitting MP and candidate from South Delhi Ramesh Bidhuri has movable and immovable assets worth Rs. 18 crore, an increase of close to Rs. 3.5 crore in the last five years, according to his affidavit.
Former Chief Minister and Congress candidate Sheila Dikshit, who filed her nomination from the North-East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday, declared personal assets worth over Rs. 4.92 crore. Ms. Dikshit had an annual taxable income of about Rs. 15 lakh in 2017-18. According to the affidavit filed by Ms. Dikshit, the 81-year-old Congress leader has an apartment in Nizamuddin area which has a market value of around Rs. 1.88 crore and her assets grew by Rs 2.1 crore since she last contested elections in the 2013 assembly polls, and she now owns a car.
Congress leader and New Delhi candidate Ajay Maken has declared an annual income of over Rs. 26.38 lakh, as per the IT returns filed in 2017-18.
Including all seven candidates of the Congress and three candidates fielded by the BJP, at least 164 candidates filed their nominations Tuesday. In all, 349 candidates have filed their nominations and are in the fray for Lok Sabha polls in the national capital. The last date of filing nominations was April 23 (Tuesday).
