It’s 27 September today and today google have been declared officially an adult.that means google turned up 18 yrs today. This giant tech company is celebrating it’s birthday today. The company, founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998, traditionally marks its birthday on the Google homepage on September 27.
But it seems that Google dosen’t know on which day it’s actual birthday falls on? Since 2006 it has celebrated it’s birthday on 27 September but year before that it was on 26 September
In 2004, its 6th birthday Doodle went online on 7 September and in the year before that it was September 8.
In fact, none of these dates seem to have any particular relevance. The company own’s history lists its incorporation date in 1998 – the nearest thing to a corporate birthday as September 4.
Google, the most loved search engine that we use today was made way back in 1996 when two men Sergey Brin and Larry page thought of making a search engine that would rank a document based upon the number of links pointing to it rather than using the traditional way which would rank a document based upon the number of times the targeted keyword is present in the document.
The company may have celebrated it’s birthday on 4 different dates but it seems as if now goggle has stuck to 27 September as it’s final date for celebrating it’s birthday. The known reason could be that this was the date when first birthday doodle went online in 2007.
18 years after it was founded at Stanford University, Google is one of the world’s most powerful companies. It is second only to Apple in value, with a market capitalisation of $541bn (£417bn).
Page and Brin are ranked 12th and 13th on Forbes’ list of the richest people in the world, with net worths of $35.2bn and $34.4bn respectively.
Last year the company split under new new corporate umbrella, with the establishment of Alphabet.Inc, shifting all the services from google to alphabet hence narrowing google’s scope. Under this multinational venture other services were also formed including x, google capital, GV. Sundar Pichai, Product Chief, became the new CEO of Google, replacing Larry Page.
