Today’s Google Doodle is dedicated to the third phase of India’s Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The election is spread over seven phases in total, with the first two phases of voting held on April 11 and April 18. Today is the third and largest phase of the Lok Sabha election, which will see polling in 117 seats across 13 states and two Union states.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The doodle features an inked finger and also shares voting procedure information
- Voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases
- The third phase of elections on Tuesday will see 117 Lok Sabha constituencies go to poll
Like on the first two phases of the Lok Sabha election, the Google Doodle has been marked by a closed fist with the index finger held up. The nail has a black mark, indicating a vote has been cast. After clicking on the doodle, it leads to instructions on how to vote. The reach of the doodle is limited to India which marks the largest democratic voting exercise underway.
The third phase of the national election will see all of Gujarat and Kerala going to vote. Today’s voting will decide the fate of the seats being contested by heavyweights like BJP chief Amit Shah and Congress president Rahul Gandhi. While Amit Shah is contesting from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar, Rahul Gandhi has chosen Kerala’s Wayanad as his second seat, after his home constituency Amethi. Also, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti and several other leaders are in the fray.
About 18.56 crore voters are eligible for voting in this phase and the Election Commission has set up 2.10 lakh polling booths/stations and has made elaborate security arrangements.
Here is the guide of the voting process at polling booths:
- First polling official will check your name on the voter list and check your ID proof
- Second polling official will ink your finger, give you a slip and take your signature on a register (Form 17A)
- You will have to deposit the slip at the third polling official and show your inked finger and then proceed to the polling booth
- Record your vote by pressing the ballot button opposite the symbol of the candidate of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM); You will hear a beep sound
