After serving at Mumbai central in January, the Telecom arm of the Railways launched free wi-fi service at Bhubaneswar railway station today. It is the second city in the country that has been covered with internet access under the Google free Wi-fi project this year.
Railway minister Suresh Prabhu says the high speed internet let the 1.4 lakh visitors surf internet while waiting for the train on the platform.
Google and RailTel have collaborated to make Wi-Fi network available for the passengers across 100 stations under the Digital India initiative. The minister committed to provide better internet facilities to 100 busiest stations across India by the end of this year.
It is to be said by CMD of RailTel Mr. R.K. Bahuguna that “Soon, Before the Rath Yatra in the month of July, Cuttack and Puri railway station will also be able to have free Wi-fi access.
On Friday, WI-FI service started at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Kacheguda railways stations. Users will also be able to access the network using in Pune, Bhopal, Ranchi, Raipur and Ernakulam junction. This will offer high speed internet to the passengers and visitors.
It is planned to provide services to Jaipur, Ujjain and Allahabad with the end of the next week.
