A day observed to recognize and pay tribute to the contributions of physicians to individual lives and communities is celebrated as National Doctors’ Day. Though, the date of this remarkable day varies from nation to nation but the main aim and purpose remains the same.

In some of the countries, the day is marked as a holiday. Even though it is supposed to be celebrated by patients in and sponsors of the healthcare industry and it is generally celebrated by health care organizations.
Traditionally, a card or red carnation may be sent to physicians as well as their spouses, together with a flower which is being placed on the graves of deceased physicians.
National Doctors’ Day in India
In India, the National Doctors’ Day is celebrated every year on July 1 all over India in order to honour the legendary physician Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, who was also the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on July 1, 1882 and died in the year 1962 on the same date, at the age of 80 years. On 4th February 1961, Dr Roy was honoured with Bharat Ratna which is considered to be the highest civilian award of the country.
The celebration of the Doctors’ Day in India is an effort to highlight the value of doctors in our lives as well as to offer them our respects by remembering and honouring one of their greatest representatives.
