India register big win over higher-ranked Puerto Rico in football friendly match

Football has the global game of World and it’s popularity is not hidden from anyone. Despite this, India is still yet to play their first World Cup of Football.

But now, it looks like Indian Football team is slowly taking its step to get the recognition at the world stage. The start has been made yesterday when India won registered a sensational 4-1 win against the Puerto Rico in an international football friendly at the Andheri Sports Complex stadium.

This win is regarded as one of the historical win in Indian football history as Puerto Rico is ranked 38 places above India. Also at the beginning of the match, India sustain a blow, when Puerto Rico scored the first goal in the very first 6th minute of the match with Emmanuel Sanchez scoring off a spot-kick award.

Although, after that host could have squared up the score in only the 12th minute but opposition’s goalkeeper rushed out and foiled Chhetri’s chance to smash goal.

The host squared the equalling goal in the 18th minute when Narayan Das lead Indian team and took them to squaring up the score. Later, the likes of Chhetri , Jeje Lalpekhlua and Jackichand Singh smashed goals in the respective (26th minute, 34th minute and 58th minute.

This victory was Indis’s fourth consecutive victory after thrashing Laos by 6-1 and 1-0 in the Asia Cup qualifiers in June and drubbed Bhutan 3-0 last month in another international friendly.

This win is considered to be one of the much-needed wins as Indian has never won a match against higher ranked team in past and even they lost the match against Afganistan Afghanistan in the SAFF Cup in Kochi in January.

Although, this win is against a team which is not considered to be good at International level and it is believed that the players of the Puerto Rico were looking tired after their long journey to India on Friday.

Sunil Chhetri, who is the highest goal scorer for his country India was the star in this game. Although, Chetri smashed a maiden goal in this match but he was active throughout the game.

Even, around 7000 Indian fans were present in Andheri Sports Complex stadium and they rooted enough to show the support for their home team.

Wheel, it is a pround event in Indian football history and if India will continue playing this way, then we are not far enough to feature in the world cup.
