Team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri has confirmed that the young opener Prithvi Shaw has recovered from the foot injury and is “ready to go” in the second and final Test against New Zealand starting on Saturday in Christchurch.
India vs New Zealand Prithvi Shaw is fit for Christchurch Test
Earlier, Shaw missed Thursday’s training session due to swelling on his left foot which increased the worries of the Indian team management ahead of the second Test. However, the good news for team India is that Shaw was back in the nets for practice on Friday with an extensive session under the observation of the head coach Shastri and got some valuable tips from skipper Virat Kohli.
In absence of Rohit Sharma, Shaw opened for India alongside Mayank Agarwal in the first Test in Wellington. However, Shaw had a poor outing in the first Test, getting dismissed cheaply in both the innings.
Tim Southee got him for 16 with an unplayable delivery in the first innings. He also found Trent Boult’s short ball difficult to negotiate when he was on 14 in the second innings.
His form hasn’t been the best and Shaw came under some scrutiny after the first Test because of his technique and lack of adjustments to his game in the conditions but Shastri feels the adjustments need to be done by everyone and not just him.
In the pre-match press, Shastri said, “Ravindra Jadeja or Ravichandran Ashwin, we will take that call tomorrow in the morning. Prithvi is ready to go (after recovering from an injury scare).”
After losing to bat and put in to bat first, India was completely outplayed in the first Test against New Zealand, suffering a 10-wicket defeat at the hands of hosts. This was India’s first defeat since the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship last year.
