International Firefighter’s Day 2021: Appreciation, Celebration, Activities & Themes

One of the most difficult jobs in the world is fire fighting. Fire has always been there from the beginning and now it has become so important that humans cannot imagine their life without fire. Fire is always symbolized as life giver as sun is also a ball of fire but sometimes fire can be devastating and could engulf anything that comes in its way. So, whenever there is a firebreak, there are firefighters that put their life on the edge and save others from the disaster. Star Wars Day 2021

International Firefighters Day

“The role of a firefighter in today’s society – be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defence force, aviation, motor sport, or other is one of dedication, commitment and sacrifice – no matter what country we reside and work in. In the fire service we fight together against one common enemy – fire – no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak.” – Lt JJ Edmondson, 1999

The life of a firefighter is dedicated to the protection of life and property. Firefighters give their valuable time to protect the life and property and work selflessly for years. Firefighters put their efforts in the work even after knowing the risks that they are facing.

International Firefighter’s Day is celebrated on 4th May and on this day world recognizes and honours the sacrifices of firefighters that they do to protect our environment and communities. On this day, firefighters are thanked for their service and their contribution to make human life easier and safer. On this day, firefighters are remembered those who lost their lives while saving lives from the fire. On 4th May, we also consider and appreciate the firefighters who still are fighting against fire to protect us.

We can show our gratitude towards the firefighters by pinning red and blue ribbons together to our clothes in a memorial or an event in which firefighters are honoured. These ribbons symbolize the two ribbons that are red and blue as fire and water respectively. These are the main elements that firefighters deal with. So, these coloured ribbons can provide support to our firefighters and will also become a part of their pride.

On International Firefighters’ Day, we can also organize volunteer activities and customize firefighter challenge coins for the fire station to express our gratitude to every firefighter. We can also use Firefighter Challenge Coins for fundraising activities and donate the funds raised from the sale of Firefighter Challenge Coins to charities that assist injured firefighters in recovering or help the families of firefighters who have been sacrificed. Customizing Firefighter Challenge Coins at GS-JJ to celebrate International Firefighters Day is the best way to express gratitude to firefighters. Firefighter Challenge Coins become part of firefighter honors, which is meaningful on International Firefighters Day.

If you want to reflect your gratitude and respect towards the sacrifices of past firefighters then you can Sound Off a noon on the first Sunday of May. There is a special time to salute the sacrifices of firefighters. Every year on the first Sunday, a fire siren is alarmed for 30 seconds and then follows a minute’s silence. This procedure is known as “Sound Off”. It is done to remember and respect the sacrifices of past firefighters those who lost their lives while saving others.
