International Tiger Day, which is also known as Global Tiger Day is a yearly celebration held on July 29. This international day is held in order to raise awareness for tiger conservation as well as to bring the attention of the general public and organization towards the declining population of the tigers in the world.

History of International Tiger Day
International Tiger Day was founded in the year 2010 at Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit which was held in Russia. The day was established in order to raise awareness about the declining numbers of wild tiger numbers, which has left them in the edge of extinction, and to inspire and boost the work of Tiger conservation.
A declaration was made in the Summit that Governments of tiger populated nations had vowed to double the tiger population by the year 2020. Every year, there are various events that are held and organized by animal organizations such as WWF, IFAW, and the Smithsonian Institute.
Reasons for the declining population of Tigers
There are several reasons due to which the population of tigers declined and some of these are as follows:
The major reason for the declining population of Tigers is poaching and illegal trade. A country like China uses every part of the body of a tiger in order to make traditional Chinese medicines and because of its high price, the tigers come to be the victims of illegal wildlife trades every year.
With the increase in population, the demand for the land has also been increased whether its for agriculture, industrial set-up, and much more. Because of this, there is around 93% of the natural habitats of tigers that have been cleared so far.
