A journalist of Goa Tarun Tejpal has been acquitted from the rape case that was charged in 2013 by the court in Goa. He was liberated from Goa court today. Tarun Tejpal said after her acquitted,” his family was facing lots of hurting injuries for the last seven and half years and it was hard to face this kind of problem for his family. He was alleged by the false allegation against him. The former chief editor of Tehelka magazine, Tarun Tejpal thanked the Goa court for the fair decision, non-partisan, and diligence in the case.
In 2013, Tarun Tejpal was arrested for sexually assaulting his colleague at the time in an elevator in a five-star hotel in the state. For the last 7 years, the case was going in Goa court and today, he was released by the court judgment. When the judgment was released by the court during his presence in the court, a later was issued at the moment that was read out by his daughter, Tara outside the building of the court in Mapusa town near Panaji. His daughter read that For the last seven and half years, his family is facing many traumatic problems and we have dealt with lots of problems in our daily lives, and professional careers, as well just because of this false allegation.
He said that we have noticed and also, felt the power of the state and along with this, we have co-operated with the court system and Goa police by visiting hundreds of court hearing”. Later he added that he and his family were following each and every mandatory order of the court along with the laws of the Indian constitution. the FIR against Tarun Tejpal was registered by the Goa police in November 2013 and later, he was arrested by police.
With all of this, Tarun Tejpal shared with the media that I thanked the court for diligence, unprejudiced and fair decision after examining the CCTV footage of the hotel and any other evidence related to the case, said Tarun Tejpal.
Related to this case, Lawyer Rajiv Gomes, who was defending the case which was going on against Tarun, had succumbed due to the Covid-19 complications last week. Tarun Tejpal has been accused by the court including IPC section 341, 354, 354-B, 376(2)(f), 342 and 376(2)(k).
While remembering him, Tarun Tejpal said that maybe, it has been a very long fight where a heart was broken. When the case was going on, my lawyer lost his life due to the Covid-19 complication, last week. He added that he was a brilliant and energetic lawyer even at the age of 47 and his career was settled as a criminal lawyer at the national level.
