Kamlesh Tiwari murder Case Live Updates: 3 Accused arrested, no terror link found

According to the eyewitnesses, two men, one of whom was wearing a saffron scarf, met with him on the pretext of gifting Diwali sweets and, once inside his home, allegedly slit his throat and shot him multiple times with a firearm before escaping. The box of sweet had an address of Surat, Gujarat written on it.

UP director general of police (DGP) OP Singh said, “The assailants behind the murder could be known to Kamlesh because they came with a box of sweet and spent more than 30 mins with Kamlesh at his office before the murder.”

Based on the complaint filed by Kiran Tiwari, the wife of deceased Kamlesh Tiwari, an FIR has been registered against two clerics of the Bijnore district. In her complaint, Kamlesh Tiwari’s wife said that the two maulanas had threatened to kill her husband in 2016.

Meanwhile, the CCTV footage purportedly showing the suspects has emerged. The police had also recovered a pistol and live cartridges from the crime spot. However, there has been no official confirmation on the motive behind Kamlesh Tiwari’s murder.

UP DGP OP Singh said, “We have got some important clues and on the basis of the CCTV evidence, we are investigating the case. Call details are also being examined. We are hopeful that within 48 hours perpetrators will be arrested.”

Meanwhile, the body of Kamlesh Tiwari, which was sent for post-mortem reached Mahmudabad in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district. Mahmudabad is Kamlesh Tiwari’s native place. His body has been handed over to his family in Mahmudabad.

However, Kamlesh Tiwari’s family has refused to perform his cremation till Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath pays them a visit and the state government fulfills their demands. Meanwhile, the family has demanded job assurance for two of the slain Hindu Samaj Party’s kin. His wife has even threatened self-immolation if the demands are not met.

According to the sources, the post-mortem report revealed that Kamlesh Tiwari was stabbed 13 times by the accused and the stab marks on Kamlesh Tiwari’s neck are unusual and the cuts resemble the methods used by terrorists. Sources said, “A bullet shot through the jaw of Kamlesh Tiwari came out of his back, ripping through the mouth.”

Meanwhile, Surat Police and Gujarat ATS have detained three people in the murder case. These people are being questioned. Apart from this, both the shooters involved in the murder of Kamlesh Tiwari are from Surat, they have been identified. According to sources in Gujarat ATS, the operation has been intensified to nab the people involved in Kamlesh Tiwari’s murder.

Meanwhile, CCTV visuals have emerged which show the two accused, suspected to be the shooters, at a sweet shop in Surat, Gujarat. The two have been identified as Fariduddin Pathan and Ashfaq Sheikh. According to information, the guns were hidden in the sweet box they bought from here.

As per the sources, police are investigating if locals were also involved in Kamlesh Tiwari’s murder. Two men and a woman were seen in the CCTV footage. Police suspect locals assisted the attackers to reach Kamlesh Tiwari’s home in Lucknow and also helped them get away after the murder.

The three people who were detained from Surat have been arrested after their interrogation. They have been identified as Khurshid Ahmed Pathan, Faizan Pathan, and Maulana Mohsin Sheikh. The two assailants (seen in the CCTV visuals) are still missing.

Meanwhile, as per UP DGP OP Singh, three people who have been arrested planned Kamlesh Tiwari’s murder. They are in police custody, while the two attackers seen in the CCTV footage are absconding.

He further added, “A joint team of UP and Gujarat Police has detained three persons and is interrogating them. Their names are Maulana Mohsin Sheikh, Faizan, and Khurshid Ahmed Pathan. Two other accused were also detained but released later, they are being monitored.”

He also said, “In the initial interrogation no criminal background of the three people, who have been detained, has been established yet. If needed, we will take them into remand, bring them to UP and question them.”
