Kannur University’s Professor arrested for sexual harassment of three students

The state Police arrested Dr K.V. Ramakrishnan who is the HoD, mathematical science department, Kannur University, for sexually abusing three girl students. On Saturday, the local police registered a case against him on the basis of a complaint filed by the registrar of the Kannur University on Friday.

The police registered a case under the sections of IPC 354 against the teacher for assaulting women with intent to outrage their modesty. The professor will be interrogated soon. The organisation of women demanded that the statement of three girl students should be registered under IPC 164 before a magistrate as there were chances of the teacher, who is a member of the pro-CPM teachers’ organisation, influencing the victims.

As per the sources that a two-member committee constituted by the Kannur University on the students’ complaints had found him prima facie guilty. The committee formed on the directions from  Governor P. Sathasivam consisted of Vineetha Menon (anthropology) and Manjula Poyil (department of history). DC had reported the sexual harassment

The Governor had sought a report from the vice-chancellor of the Kannur University on the complaints of students. The committee had come to the conclusion that there was prima facie evidence of mental and physical harassment by the teacher as alleged by the students.
