Kerala Announced Pension Scheme For Transgenders First Reactions From Surya Vinod, Sheetal Shyam

The finance minister of Kerala Thomas Issac presented the budget of Kerala today in the morning. In the budget the finance minister of kerala announced many schemes and alloted funds for social works. He also announced the pension for the transgenders above 60 years old age.

This announcement  made by FM Thomas Issac of Kerala is first announce in the country.

LDF led Government said that we are committed to protect the right of all citizens including the transgender of the state. Through the pension, we can enhance the life of transgenders of the state.

The finance minister did not allot the amount to the pension scheme for the transgenders in the Kerala state. But it is relief for the 25000 members transgender community in the state. The transgender are denied for proper jobs and rehabilitation till date by the government.

Kerala became the state in India to provide the pension scheme for the transgenders in the state. It became the first state in India to bring out a policy for the transgender in the state.

A demand of transgenders community in the state – to offer free sex reassessment surgery to align their biological sex with their gender identity in order to become male and female, did not find the place in the budget 2016.
