In Hyderabad, the offspinner became the furious to take 250 Test wickets after reaching the tally on the third day of the one-off Test against Bangladesh.Anil Kumble is listed 12th and is the second Indian bowler in the top-20 with around 250-260 wickets in Tests.The overall list is headed by Aussie leg-spinner Shane, who took a staggering 96 wickets in 15 Tests in the year 2005.
While, Ashwin took his 250th wicket in his 45th Test, which makes him the fastest bowler. The previous record holder was Australian pacer Dennis Lillee, who had achieved this feat in around 48 Tests. Among the Indian bowlers, the previous record to reach the landmark was of Kumble, who took his 250th wicket fantastically in 55th Test.
Ashwin has been breaking records since the 2016-17 season. Till now, he has scored 57 wickets in this season and 7 more will make him go past Kapil Dev‘s record of most wickets in an Indian season, while 8 will make go past Kumble’s tally of most wickets by an Indian bowler in a season.
It is no surprise to know that the Indian selectors, who have started giving importance to the game, had rested the Chennai for 5 match ODI series against New Zealand last year, and also the three-match T20I series against England this year.
Dale Steyn-49 Tests, Allan Donald-50 Tests, Waqar Younis-51 Tests.This feat takes Ashwin 45 matches ahead of Australian bowler Dennis Lillee, who took 48 Tests to get to the 250 wicket mark.
