The process for filing the nominations for the National capital’s seven constituencies will begin from Tuesday. The Chief electoral officer of Delhi, Ranbir Singh said, “The notification announcing for polls in Delhi on May 12 would be issued on April 16. The President of India would issue the notification calling upon electors of all the seven constituencies in Delhi and other constituencies that would be going on polls in the sixth phase. The election commission will simultaneously publish a separate notification.”

He further added, “Candidates would have to follow the Model Candidate of Conduct. The returning officer (RO) would give each candidate a kit which has details of the guidelines he has to follow including expenditures.”
The poll panel would also publish the list of centers where candidates can file their nominations. Usually, nominations are filed with returning officer of the respective district starting 11 am.
While the Aam Aadmi Party has declared its candidates for the seven seats, the Congress has almost finalized its candidates and is expected to declare the list soon. The BJP, however, is yet to declare its candidates. A senior party leader said, “It will be done at the right time.”
The last date of filing of nominations is April 23, with April 17 and 19 being closed owing to Good Friday and Sunday, respectively. The date of scrutiny of nominations is April 24, while the date for withdrawing of nominations is April 26.
“This year we have tied up with the Delhi Transport Corporation and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. At least 1000 DTC buses and 1600 cluster buses and one train of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation would be wrapped with election awareness materials,” said the official.
The Lok Sabha polls, to be conducted in seven phases. It has already begun on April 11 and will continue till May 19.
Delhi will vote on May 12 and the overall results will be declared on May 23.
