The former Indian Cricket team captain, MS Dhoni, as part of Victor Force is going to be deployed in the Kashmir valley. MS Dhoni, India’s most successful captain, is going to stay with the troops and he will also take on the duties such as patrolling, guard and post duty.
In order to serve his regiment, Dhoni had taken a two-month break from cricket.
From 31 July, Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) MS Dhoni is going on to 106 TA Battalion (Para) for being with the Battalion. He is going to serve his regiment there to 15 Aug 2019.
Due to his services in his regiment and two month break from cricket has made Dhoni unavailable for the West Indies tour.
MS Dhoni, who holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army unit of the Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA battalion), was given the honour by the Indian Army in the year 2011.
MS Dhoni turns into a qualified paratrooper, 4 years ago, when he finished his 5 parachute training jumps from Indian Army aircrafts at the Agra training camp.
Dhoni, in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup was involved in a voracious partnership with Ravindra Jadeja but soon India got defeated by New Zealand and made its way to the final.
Earlier in MS Dhoni captaincy, he had led India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2007 edition, 2011 World Cup as well as the 2013 Champions Trophy.
The first match of India in 2019 World Cup was against South Africa where MS Dhoni had donned the Balidan crest on his wicketkeeping gloves. But after that match, ICC removed the crest for India’s second match of the tournament which was held against Australia, said it was against the rules.
After the 2019 world cup, there has been many rumours that Dhoni is going to retire after this but then afterward it was clarified by BCCI that he is not.
Former Indian team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday made himself “unavailable” for the tour of West Indies but at the same time also ruled out speedy retirement just a day before the selectors meet in Mumbai in order to pick the squads for the upcoming series.
A senior BCCI official told PTI on Saturday, Dhoni is an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army, “We would like to clarify three things. MS Dhoni is not retiring from cricket right now. He is taking a two month sabbatical to serve his paramilitary regiment which he had committed much earlier. We have now intimated his decision to skipper Virat Kohli and chairman of selectors MSK Prasad,”
