Amid the row over the controversial remark of AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi that he will not chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” just because the constitution of India can’t say it; in the answer now the BJP in the Maharashtra demanding to ‘expel Asaduddin Owaisi from society also’.
On Thursday in Maharashtra Assembly, political parties remained divided over the issue but the BJP supported the action to suspend him from the Maharashtra Assembly even saying that such persons “should be expelled from society”.
BJP general secretary said that such people who do not honour the motherland should not be allowed to seat in the house. He also added that what Maharashtra Assembly did was absolutely right. He further said; Even the society should boycott such people.
“Keeping in view the unity and integrity, why cannot one say Bharat Mata ki Jai,” said Dilip Kumar Gandhi, BJP MP from Ahmednagar. Stating that the “majority’s feelings should be respected”.
He also made a statement that this country has been fair to Muslims. The governments have been trying to bring them into the mainstream.
While Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi recently condemned the BJP for “destroying relationships” in the name of the flag, his party in the Maharashtra Assembly supported Pathan’s suspension.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi of Congres said his party condemns that such persistent efforts to raise one community against the other and upholds the rights of every Indian to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Madar-e-Watan Jindabad.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury drew example with Hitler’s Germany and said that patriotism can’t be equated with one slogan and cannot be reduced to chanting one slogan. He said the BJP; is using nationalism to booster their efforts of turning this secular democratic republic into their mission of Hindu Rashtra.
He further added that the history has a great example of how Hitler used nationalism for his purpose. The BJP is also keeping same issues alive to divert attention from the economic situation that is going from bad to worse.
CPI’s national secretary D Raja said that both the parties BJP and AIMIM want to polarise the society on a communal basis and thus they feed each other.
NDA ally LJP supported the suspension and expressed the concern that Owaisi is raising up non-issues to gain mileage in upcoming UP Assembly Elections; There is no difference between ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Hind’. Both are the same.
As for the suspension, it is the accommodation of the Assembly and the Speaker. But we feel if someone is trying to gain unfair mileage in the Assembly by raking up non-issues, the Speaker may act on it; said Sanjay Saraf, national spokesperson.
