Malayalam filmmaker Sasi Shankar passes away at the age of 58

On Wednesday, The Malayali director Sasi Shankar passed away in Kochi. He won a National Award for the Best Film on social issues.

According to reports in a leading daily, his relatives revealed that he was a diabetic. On Wednesday the filmmaker was taken to a private hospital in Kolan cherry. After sometime, the director was declared dead by the doctor.

Recently, the director Sasi was working on his new film. The brother-in-law of Sasi Shankar, Sreekumar revealed that on Monday he returned from Kozhikode. On Tuesday, He had held a meeting with his associates regarding the new venture.

Sreekumar further revealed that the director Sasi was at his home at Pancode near Puthenkurish. On Wednesday, around 9:30 am he collapsed suddenly. We took him to the hospital immediately but he died before reaching the hospital.

The talented film maker Sasi Shankar has been known for many films, one of them is Narayam which won a national award in 1993. His movie Kunjikkoonan that starred Dileep in a double role was a box office hit in Kerala. Movie Kunjikkoonam went on to be remade in Tamil as Perazhagan that starred Suriya and Jyotika in lead roles.

The funeral rites of director Sasi Shankar will be performed at around 3:00 pm today. The film maker is survived by his wife Beena Shankar, son Vishnu Sasi Shankar and daughter Meenakshi Shankar.
