On Sunday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused BJP leaders for the spike in Covid-19 cases in the state. She said, BJP leaders “from Delhi” are bringing “outsiders” in the state for election campaigning without coronavirus tests. She then blamed them and held responsible for the increasing cases of Covid-19 in West Bengal these days.
In addition to that, the Trinamool Congress supremo had also held responsible the Election Commission (EC) for restricting the time of her campaigning by five days for the 2021 assembly polls in the state. On the other hand, the EC didn’t consider her request to club the remaining 3 phases of the elections in the wake of the increase in numbers of Covid-19 cases, she blamed.
She said “Leaders from Delhi are bringing in outsiders” who are infected with the coronavirus all through election campaigning “without bothering to conduct COVID-19 tests.”
The chief minister further added her statement by saying that being infected with the coronavirus is not a crime. But at the same time, the irresponsible act put up by the BJP has caused the sudden spike in the Covid-19 cases number in recent days.
Supporting her statement, she said that a BJP candidate went on election campaigning in Howrah district in spite of being infected by the coronavirus. She asked “Why couldn’t he sit at home and abstain from election campaigning?” and supported her party by saying that Trinamool party never takes such kind of risk that may affect general public.
She alleged that Election Commission is getting biased with her and have harsh attitude towards her. She said that previously the EC had taken away a full day of her election campaign. Now, they have shortened the campaigning time by 4 days in the last three phases. This in result has shortened her meetings in south Bengal districts. She also reminded the electorate that she was not the one who allowed the National Population Register (NPR) exercise in Bengal. And by stopping BJP to come into power will automatically prevent them to introduce NPR, NRC and CAA in the state, she added.
The TMC supremo has also cautioned general public against letting the “outsiders to inhabit Bengal.” The West Bengal CM also stated that this on-going election is for “saving the honour of the womenfolk of Bengal” as well as for the protection of reliability of the state.
The chief minister also wished general people on the upcoming Annapurna Puja, Basanti Puja, along with Ramnavami, and Ramadan. At the end she also chanted ‘Chandi shlokas’ along with wishing Muslim community members on their on-going festival.
