Man Arrested Smuggling 100 iPhone X units worth Rs 85 Lakh at Delhi Airport

A 53-year-old man was reported, arrested by the customs department at the Indira Gandhi International Airport as he was allegedly smuggling 100 iPhone X units worth around Rs 85 lakh.

The alleged was as per reports, traveling from Dubai and was arrested at the period when he was coming out of the green channel. Further investigation is underway and the iPhone X is Apple’s most recent flagship which is also the company’s most expensive iPhone available in India.

“The accused was coming from Dubai in flight no – 6E048. He was arrested when he was coming out through the green channel. A detailed search led to the seizure of the mobile phones worth around Rs 85 lakh from his possession,” sources said. The iPhone Xs were seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962 and the alleged man take in custody under Section 104.

Particularly, the iPhone X is cheaper in Dubai than India, so probably, that’s why the accused man was smuggling the phones into the nation. In the country, India, the 64GB base model of the iPhone X which is having expenses around Rs 95,000 at the same time as the high-end 265GB variant costs around 1, 08,000 and all credit goes to the customs duty as they arrested the accused anyway.

In the meantime, the base variant can be found in Dubai for AED 4,304 (approx Rs 78,294) at the same time as the top variant costs AED 4,965 (approx Rs 90,318).

The iPhone X has been the best-selling smartphone in Q1 2018, as per research firm Strategy Analyst. Total shipments of the iPhone X reached 16 million units in Q1 2018. “We estimate the Apple iPhone X shipped 16.0 million units and captured 5 percent market share worldwide in Q1 2018. For the second quarter running, the iPhone X remains the world’s most popular smartphone model overall, due to a blend of good design, sophisticated camera, extensive apps, and widespread retail presence for the device,” senior analyst Juha Winter stated in the press release.
