Man sets himself on fire near White House

A strange but serious incident took place in the US when a man set himself on fire near the White House on Wednesday, as per to the Secret Service said. The statement further added that the individual was getting first aid at the scene.

As per to the Secret Service on Twitter said, the incident took place soon after noon on the Ellipse — south of the president’s residence, near 15th Street and Constitution Avenue.

U.S. Secret Service on twitter tweeted, “At approximately 12:20 p.m. a man lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Ave., Secret Service personnel are on scene assisting @NatlParkService and @usparkpolicepio in rendering first aid.”

The people present on the spot at the time when this incident happened stated that the man on the Ellipse started running, and then we saw him covered in flames. He then started to walk and then the cops started coming to the area and then he collapsed Berzins. The fire then was extinguished, they said. People also captured this occurrence on their phones and the video of the incident is also being circulated on social media.

All the people were shocked after seeing the incident happing in front of their eyes. The individual is being transported to a local hospital for the medical treatment. A number of outlets reported that the man’s injuries were life-threatening and the doctors are trying their best in order to recover him as soon as possible.

The authorities from the National Park Service as well as US Park Police were administering first aid after the event took place on the Ellipse near the Washington Mall. The area is usually popular with tourists, according to a Twitter post. In addition there are no details available, till now nothing is revealed yet such as who was the man and the reason behind it and much more.

“Secret Service personnel are on scene assisting @NatlParkService and @usparkpolicepio in rendering first aid,” it said, mentioning to park rangers and park police.

This incident is considered to be the second such incident held after April 12, when a man in a wheelchair-type electric scooter lit his jacket on fire outside the White House fence.

A spokesman for the Washington Fire Department tells CNBC, “I can confirm that we’ve transported one patient with burns from the Ellipse and we’re now on the scene assisting law enforcement,” mentioning to Park Police and U.S. Secret Service officers.

Previous month, a man also set his jacket on fire just outside the White House fence on Pennsylvania Avenue. The man at that time suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
