Mann Ki Baat: Prime Minister Modi Urges Country To End Usage of ‘Single Use Plastic’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through his monthly programme Mann Ki Baat at 11 am today. This was his third radio broadcast since the BJP government was re-elected for a second term in May. The Mann Ki Baat programme was broadcast on All India Radio’s regional and national stations.

In today’s session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pitched for launching a “new mass movement” against single-use plastic from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He urged the people to ensure proper collection and storage of plastic to save the environment.

Earlier in the Independence Day eve’s, while addressing the nation PM Modi had urged citizens to eliminate single-use plastic and suggested that shopkeepers provide eco-friendly bags to customers. It is believed that this continuous push against single-use plastic from his end is as an effort to prevent environmental degradation.

PM Modi also hopes that the ‘Man Vs Wild’ program will help in making the country aware of the message of India, the tradition of India, the sensitivity of nature in the Sanskrit Yatra of India. “This episode has helped me so much that it has become my firm belief,” said PM Modi.

Modi Urges Country To End Usage of ‘Single Use Plastic’

Emphasizing on tiger population in India, PM Modi said, “Last month I had the privilege of releasing the tiger census in the country. Tiger population in India is 2967. This is New India, we accomplish the goals as quickly as possible. We have doubled our tiger numbers in 2019 itself. Not only the tiger population in India, but the number of protected areas and community reserves have also increased.”

PM Modi further said that on the occasion of National Sports Day, ‘Fit India Movement’ will be launched in the country. He said, ‘On 29th Aug, on the occasion of National Sports Day, we will launch ‘Fit India Movement’ in the country. I want to see you fit and make you fitness conscious.”

PM Modi ends his address with the hope to see India plastic-free and its people fitter than before.
