2019 ISSF World Cup: Manu Bhaker breaks Junior World Record in 10m Air Pistol, Bags India’s First Gold

The 17-year-old Indian shooter, Manu Bhaker, made history on Thursday as she bagged a gold medal in Women’s 10m Air Pistol event at the 2019 ISSF World Cup. Simultaneously, she also broke the junior world record with her score of 244.7. It was also India’s first gold this year at the shooting world cup. Also, Manu is now the second Indian after Heena Sidhu to win a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup final.

Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic came second on the podium with a score of 241.9, while Quian Wang of China bagged the third spot with a score of 221.8. Meanwhile, Yashaswini Deswal was also competing in the same event and finished 6th in the final round.

Manu has had an illustrious start to her career which has seen her bag the Youth Olympics Gold medal, Asian Championship Gold medal too. She has also booked herself a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Earlier, Manu had missed out on a spot in the final of the 25m pistol event, having only managed to score 583 in the qualification round. She had shot 292 and 291 in the precision and rapid events respectively. She was tied with two others on the same score but lack of inner 10s as compared to the other two saw her drop out of contention for the final round.

On the other hand, Abhishek Verma and Saurabh Chaudhary qualified for the finals in the men’s 10m air pistol event. While Verma topped the qualifications with a score of 588, Chaudhary was seventh with 581.
Meanwhile, the results from 10m Air Pistol Men’s final, 10m Air Rifle Women’s final and 10 Air Rifle Men’s finals are yet to be declared.
