Microsoft Include in US Antitrust Hearing On Big Tech Companies Of New Outlets

The US Antitrust committee is going to hear a plea of News publishers. They have implicated that Big Tech Media companies such as Google and Facebook, use news media platforms in order to attract customers, however, they do not allocate enough revenue with them. The sources of revenue of these social media companies are advertising. In this accusation, one of the world’s Giant Tech company of America Microsoft is also involved. Earlier almost 20 years ago, an antitrust case was filed against Microsoft. For this, a house Judiciary Panel has been formed which will be focussing on antitrust regarding the giant tech companies who use their market dominance power and neglect the interest of News Media Publishers. In this subcommittee, the President of Microsoft company, Brad Smith will also be present and his statement would also be heard by the committee.

As for witnesses, News Media Alliance’s head David Chavern, National Association of Broadcasters and Graham Media Group’s representative Emily Barr, and News Guild- CWA’s president Jonathan Schleuss was the witnesses for the hearing that took place on Friday. Seven local television stations come under the National Association Broadcasters and Graham Media Group, while News Guild-CWA is a union representative for the journalist.

As per reports, a bill will also be introduced by Congress member’s Bipartisan for safeguarding the interest of news media publishers and organizations against the dominance of Giant technology companies and also a clause for an increasing proportion in their revenue will also be taken into consideration.

Last month also, tech companies such as Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple Inc. were convicted for apparent anti-competitive behaviour. It is a huge concern, that how these technological giants monopolies their industry. It is important to scrutinize how they pay distributors who make sure that their search engine will remain on the top by default. For this purpose, the United States has made a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust.
