The American space agency, NASA is all set to send the next man and first woman on the South pole of the Moon by the year 2024. Under the administration of American president Joe Biden and the first female Vice President Kamala Harris, an international spaceflight program, named Artemis, will be carried out. The estimated budget of this program is estimated to be around USD35 billion, while the working of this project started in the year 2017 and is still in work in progress. In a conference, President Biden gave a statement in which he said that mission, ‘Artemis’ is one the top priority of the Biden government.
In December, the first cadre of spacemen was announced for the international spaceflight program, while for Artemis program III, the first two crew members are yet to be announced by NASA. On this mission, the American Space agency’s top 18 expert astronauts are working in a team, some of them are experienced while some of them are new and each member adds great value to the program. Indo-American astronaut Raja Chari is also included in this program.
Chief of Staff of Nasa, Bhavya Lal has also said, that this program is very special, as it will going to unveil some new facts about the south pole of lunar, which would ultimately benefit humankind. Lal also stated in her tweet that she never thought of working at the US space agency. NASA astronauts also revealed that the long term objective of the Artemis program is to send humans to Mars, and therefore, if the astronauts land on the moon and come back to earth, then, this will serve as a testing ground before assigning the astronauts to the moon.
Humans have never been to the lunar south pole and therefore, if the astronauts examine the southern pole of the moon, it will give a new piece of information to the astronauts which would beneficial for further experiments and analysis. NASA released a statement in which they said that they have requested funding of USD 24.7 billion to Joe Biden’s administration and this will show their commitment and respect towards this program and the partners including ESA, CSA, ASI, UKSA and others, who are putting their sweat and blood, even under tough circumstances and accomplished extraordinary progress.
