Non Bailable Warrant issued against Vijay Mallya in cheque bouncing case

One more trouble for the Kingfisher owner Vijay Mallya, a metropolitan court of suburban Andheri in Mumbai issued a non-bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya on Saturday in a case of cheque bouncing which was filed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

An application was filed by Airports Authority of India against liquor baron Mallya in connection with two cheque worth Rs. 100 crores that were not honoured.

Vijay Mallya have to appeared in the court today, but he did not appear in the court. So the Magistrate issued a Non-bailable Warrant(NBW) against him.

The Airports Authority of India filed two applications to cancellation of permanent exemption from court appearance granted to Mallya. The liquor baron Mallya has since left the country amid an outcry over his airline defaulting on repayment of over Rs 9,000 crore to the banks, and sought an arrest warrant against him.

Currently, Vijay Mallya is believed to be living in the United Kingdom. As part of the deal, Mallya agreed to step down as chairman of United Spirits in return for a payment of $75 million over five years. Diageo is reported to have already paid at least half of that amount to Mallya.

The Enforcement Directorate and other government agency investigated the liquor baron Mallya, for alleged foreign exchange violations.
