Northern Lights Visible In New England Tonight

If the skies are clear and the atmospheric setting is good, New England may possibly be treated to spectate an impressive aurora display which is expected to occur late Monday night to early Tuesday morning. According to National Weather Service, the geomagnetic storm activity that held on Sunday night gave an approach to a spectacular sky display all over the northern part of the country which is also expected to continue tonight as well and the most northern states may have a shot tonight.

The Space Weather Prediction Center has also issued a G1 geomagnetic storm alert, which means that the northern lights are going to dip further than south than they usually do.

The NWS also further said the best possibility for those in central New England to catch this may possibly be in the middle of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The NWS Eastern Region tweeted, “Geomagnetic storm activity created an impressive aurora display across the northern US last night & it appears it may continue into tonight. Best chances for the Eastern US will be northern horizon across northern & possibly central New England & New York between 10 pm & 2 am EDT.”

The storms like this was also occurred this year and the aurora borealis should be visible across most of Canada, as well as Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Maine in the United States.

Canada’s Northern Lights Centre on the other hand says that the northern lights are “the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the Earth’s atmosphere with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere.”

The changes in colour are simply because of the type of gas particles that are striking with the particles from the sun.

The most common colours observed are Pale green and pink. Also, there are some shades of red, yellow, green, blue and violet have been reported. If the conditions are perfect, then the effect can be spectacular.

If you don’t want to miss this opportunity so you must headed for some place with clear skies basically which are away from street lights. Don’t just hurry up because it takes its time but you must be happy to know that it is going to be around 70 degrees, so waiting outside shouldn’t be not too much long. As per to the Weather.com, tonight’s weather is expected to be clear with periodic clouds, which on other hand is also a good news for anyone who is really hoping to catch a sight.
