Pakistan Army Violates ceasefire in JKs poonch fierce gun battle underway

Jammu: On Sunday, after the calm for four months, the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) was violated again by Pakistan Army. The army of Pakistan started firing and shelling mortars at two places in Poonch sector of J&K.

Indian Army also retaliated to the firing. The ceasefire violation was still going on, according to the last reports.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said that the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector of J&K.

Spokesman Mehta said that the Pakistan Army resorted to small arm, automatic weapon and heavy mortar fire in Poonch sector since 0300 hrs.

Mehta added that Our troops are responding appropriately and no damage or casualties to our troops was reported till the report last came in. The firing was still going on.

The ceasefire violation on Sunday comes after over four months. The last such ceasefire violation incident took place on 10th April 2016 in Poonch sector of J&K.

Earlier Pakistan had violated ceasefire on 18th September, 2015 in Balakote sector of Poonch district, J&K.

The officer said that in the year 2015, 16 civilians were killed and 71 others injured in 405 incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan.

He said that 152 incidents of ceasefire violation were reported along the Line of Control(LoC). Along with the International Border, 253 incidents of ceasefire violations took place.

At least 8,000 people were temporarily affected in the Poonch sector of J&K due to the ceasefire violations by the Pakistan army. The affected people had to be shifted to safer locations.
