Peepli Live co-director Farooqui Rape Case: Delhi police seeks Maximum Punishment

New Delhi: On Tuesday, The Delhi police has sought maximum punishment of life imprisonment for Co-director of ‘Peepli Live’ Film Mahmood Farooqui in the rape case of an American lady.

According to the media reports, The Saket court of Delhi has reserved its order for 4th August 2016 on the quantum of sentence.

On 30th July 2016, Sanjiv Jain who is Additional Sessions Judge in Saket court convicted Farooqui for rape and fixed 2nd August 2016 for hearing arguments on quantum of sentence.
Mahmood Farooqui was accused of raping a woman 35 years old from Columbia University. She was in India for research on her doctoral thesis.

The woman moved to Delhi in June 2014. She was looking for contacts for her work in Gorakhpur, then she came in contact with Mahmood Farooqui.

The incident dates back to 28th March 2015 when the co-director Farooqui invited her for dinner at his house in Delhi.

According to the police charge sheet, the woman reached his house at 9 p.m. After talking with her for a while, Mahmood Farooqui suddenly kissed her and forced himself on her. She was scared after the incident.

During the court trial, the American lady stood by her complaint and alleged that co-director Mahmood Farooqui had raped her at his house in Delhi. But he denied the allegations. Mahmood claimed that I was falsely implicated.
