The 2021 Peruvian general election took place in the Republic of Peru in two rounds. The first round was held on 11th April 2021, while the second round took place on 6th June 2021, that is, on Sunday. At present, the counting of votes is taking place in the second round of the Presidential election and currently, Pedro Castillio from the Free Peru party is leading by 0.45. Keiko Fujimori from the Popular Force party and Pedro from Free Peru are the nominee for the run-off election round. This presidential election holds significant importance, as it will determine the next President and VP of Peru.
Overview of Peruvian General Election 2021
The Presidential election in Peru took place in two rounds. The two candidates with the highest votes will proceed to the second or run-off election round. However, if the candidates get the majority of votes in the first round, then, the run-off election round will no longer be required and the candidates will be declared the winner of the election.
For the first time, after the 2006 general election in Peru, a total of 18 candidates took part in the 2021 Presidential election. As previously discussed, the first round took place on 11th April 2021, in which the member of the left-wing Free Peru party, Pedro achieved the majority of votes against the leader of the right-wing Popular Force party, Keiko Fujimori.

There are a total of 130 seats in the congress of Peru and in order to win the general election 2021, the candidates are required to obtain majority seats. Thus, in order to win the current election, both Pedro and Keiko needs 66 seats. A total of 24,290,921 votes took part in the voting and currently the counting of votes is taking place. Only a few minutes are left and soon the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) will release the result of the second round of the Peruvian General Election 2021.
