PM Narendra Modi: Turn off the lights for 9 minutes on April 5 at 9 pm, Covid-19

In a video message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today appealed his countrymen to switch off the house lights at 9 pm for 9 minutes and appealed to light the diyas, candles, torch or flashlight of mobiles at the doors & balcony on Sunday i.e. April 5, 2020. In his video message, PM Modi said, “Today nine days of the lockdown have been completed that was enforced due to the Coronavirus pandemic. During this time, all of you have introduced discipline and service, which is unprecedented. Governance-administration and Janata Janardhan have made every effort to handle the situation together.”

He also said that the way you thanked the coronavirus fighters who fought against Corona on 22 March is commendable. He further added that it is time for lockdown and we are definitely in our homes, but none of us is alone.
In the video message released for the country, PM Modi said, ‘On this Sunday, April 5, we all have to meet and challenge the darkness of the Corona crisis and introduce the power of light. We have to awaken the superpower of 130 crore citizens of the country. The great power of 130 crore people has to be taken to new heights. On April 5, at 9 pm, I want your nine minutes. At that time, if you have turned off all the lights of your homes, and each one of us in all directions has lit a diya, we will experience the superpower of light, clearly illuminating the common purpose we are all fighting for.”

In his special address today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said a recent show of national solidarity — the public clapped and banged utensils on March 22 to show appreciation for essential service providers during a “Janata curfew” — was a model being followed by other countries.
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said that he expected Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce steps to tackle India’s economic woes, including relief measures for poor people hit hard by the lockdown. He said, “We will listen to you and light diyas on April 5. But in return, please listen to us and to the wise counsel of epidemiologists and economists.”
