Wins for Woods, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele as well as the maligned Patrick Reed, two halved matches plus a definite half point for Matt Kuchar were pretty enough to safe the star-studded Americans a 16-14 victory. Veteran Matt Kuchar was the hero, with his winning stroke on the 17th in the penultimate match to go one up against Louis Oosthuizen, was quite enough to make sure the victory.

Woods said, “It was an honour for me as a player and even more of an honour to be their captain”. He further added, “It’s been one of the more amazing challenges but all the guys, they believed in one another. We relied on one another as a team and we did it together.

“I trust all my 11 guys. I trust them implicitly; I told them from the very get go. They went out there and got the points we needed. This cup wasn’t going to be given to us. We had to go earn it, and we did.”

On the other hand, it was a big loss for Ernie Els’ young Internationals who led for the first three days of the biennial match play event but then ultimately failed to deliver the killer blow against a more experienced and proficient US team.

The 2019 Presidents Cup was the 13th edition of the Presidents Cup golf competition which was held at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Victoria. The completion was started from 12 and was concluded on 15 December 2019.

Royal Melbourne has earlier hosted the tournament in the year 1998, at which the International team had their only victory, and 2011. This venue is the only international venue to have held the tournament more than one time.

Tiger Woods captained the U.S. team, as well as on the other side, Ernie Els captained the International team. Woods chose Fred Couples, Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker as his assistants and Els at the same time chose K. J. Choi, Geoff Ogilvy, Trevor Immelman and Mike Weir as his assistants.

The United States after a great competition finally retained the cup, winning the match 16–14. Losing before the final day singles matches they won six as well as tied four of the 12 matches.
