Many BJP workers and MPs have been detained by the police as they were protesting against the celebration of Tipu Sultan’s Jayanti. Tipu Sultan’s Jayanti is being celebrated in Karnataka today. State government has deployed heavy security and forces over the regions where celebration is on. As BJP and other Hindus are protesting against it, prohibitory orders have been imposed by the state government to maintain peace in several districts of Karnataka.

In Hubli, BJPs workers along with MP Prahlad Joshi were detained by the Police as they were marching a protest towards mini assembly. In Madikeri, workers were detained by the police as they were protesting in the premises of deputy commissioner against the celebration of Tipu Sultan’s jayanti.
Meanwhile, ministers and leaders of JD(S) including the Chief Minister H.D Kumaraswamy were not present in the celebration. CM H.D Kumaraswamy stayed away from the celebration due to some health issues. State Minister of Congress, D.K Shivakumar took part in the celebrations at the state assembly. BJP leaders are protesting against this celebration saying that Tipu Sultan in 18th century had killed hindus and attacked many temples.
Section 144 has been imposed in the Kodagu district in which assembly of more than 4 people in an area is prohibited and if caught, strict actions would be taken. Section 144 will be in action in Hubli and Dharwad cities from 10th November (6am) to 11th November (7am).
Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was seen wearing a Tipu Sultan cap and holding a sword symbolizing Tipu Sultan. He was accompanied by minority welfare minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan at his residence in Bangalore.
Kodagu district secretary Sajjal Krishnan (BJP) agitatedly said that the government is wasting money by spending it on the celebrations of Tipu Sultan’s Jayanti. He said, “Tipu is not a warrior. He killed so many Hindus and attacked temples. Why are they glorifying a man like him? This is only vote bank politics. Everyone in Kodagu is opposing the celebrations”. In Kodagu district, native people are opposing the celebrations as they accuse Tipu for torturing, slaughtering, killing and forcibly converting the religion of more than thousands of people during his control.
